Advertisement and television
Advertisement is everywhere today. You can't escape from it anywhere. No matter where you go or what you hear, you see or hear the advertisement at least 3 times a day. On television it irritates much because it disturbs you while watching the film or your favourite soap opera. Many European countries have solved this problem by adopting a special law but still the majority of people are irritated by it because of its bad quality, sometimes the advertisement can be really awfully done, or with a bad sense of humour. Nowadays there are thousands of special commercial channels that show only commercials and nothing more, and it is a good way out.
And one of the biggest problems is that advertisement lies! And it lies a lot. People can't get the true information about the product from commercials, because the main purpose of it is to sell and no matter how qualitative this product is. And the bad quality of advertisement causes the problem of constant switching the channels.
The other problem is that sometimes they advertise erotica, violence or harmful products such as cigarettes and alcohol. The young generation can get bad influence and immitate the actors of commercials. Of course in some countries it is prohibited by law to advertise such products and these laws make the companies write on their products their harmful influence, but it is still a problem in many countries especially in the Eastern Europe and Asia. Besides in the majority of the cases it advertises not the product but the trade mark which is allowed by law even if it is a trade mark of Cigarettes Company.
Sometimes you can even find an advertisement in your favourite shows and films. For example, when you see the main character eating chips of a famous trade mark, it is an advertisement. Another example is the advertising of sponsors of the show – it is all advertisement.
But of course we can't say it is useless, after all we get all the information about necessary things from television. And it gives us the idea where to buy it.
And of course in modern life, advertisement has become a sort of art. There are different festivals and competitions of the best commercials. And some of them are really good and funny with a good sense of humour. And sometimes it is even more interesting to watch a commercial than a "trash program". But they are very rare and unique.
The majority of people want to see commercials more interesting and funny and think that the amount of advertisement should be reduced on TV. But only a little part of the TV audience is ready to pay for television without advertisement. People prefer to watch commercials that present the products they need, and in the majority of cases simply switch the channel if it starts to show advertisement.
Advertisement can also save our time. You don't need to go to the shop and choose among a great variety of products and services.
Besides it also informs us, for example, political commercials. Nowadays the social commercials are very popular. They are integrated to every-day life through slogans that popularize moral values and protection of health and lives of people, such as "Stop AIDS", "Respect the adults", "Use condoms", "Help your friend".
Sometimes you need only a telephone and a TV set to do the shopping just sitting on your couch, well, and of course money.
But whether we like it or not it will be present for a long time on the television because it is the source of profits for TV channels. There are a few channels that don't have advertisement and in majority of cases they are paid. That is why it's up to you to decide whether to pay in order to see to see your favourite soap opera without pauses or to watch a couple of commercials but for free. The more interesting the programme is, the bigger is the audience and that is why more commercials appear. After all, every company wants more people to watch the commercials about their products. The same is true about all kinds of mass media, because it is the best way to popularize the product or some kind of service.
